INTRODUCTION

Today’s technological advancements have played a big role in the way we live. In fact, with the rise of "Internet of Things," an important question to reflect on is: "how much of our data have we freely given to others?". 

This self-paced course is designed to educate you about the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the basic policies and recommendations on how data should securely be gathered, stored, and managed. Additionally, this course will educate you about the basic concepts of data compliance and our obligations as owners and handlers of data, particularly sensitive data.

As a basic course, it is best to be taken by individuals who would like to improve their familiarity on the basic concepts surrounding Data Privacy in the Philippine context, as well as employees of companies (up to middle-level managers) whose responsibilities include the proper safeguarding of the sensitive data of their companies, partners, and clients.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Upon completion of this course, the learners are expected to be able to: 
  2. Comprehensively understand the basic provisions of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the 2016 Implementing Rules and Regulations;
  3. Accurately identify the different kinds of information that data subjects hold;
  4. Acquire useful knowledge in the process & management of one’s data;
  5. Correctly identify the rules, roles, and rights indicated in the Data Privacy Act and IRR;
  6. Determine an appropriate plan of action when data has been compromised.

Lecture Notes & Readings

  • All course content, including videos, lecture notes, readings, handouts, and checklists will be provided in the Razza Cotrain learning platform.

Asynchronous Activities

  • Case analysis and drafting of an action plan
  • Drafting of a Breach Notification
  • Reflection

Individual Assignments

  • As adult learners, participants are responsible for self-development.
  • As this is a self-paced course, you will be required to submit and complete all activities and requirements via Razza Cotrain.

COURSE OUTLINE

The main content of this course is organized into 3 modules: 

  • MODULE 1: The Data Privacy Act of 2012

  • MODULE 2: Data Flow & Management

  • MODULE 3: Data Security 

Before deep-diving into the course proper, however, students will be asked to answer a pre-assessment questionnaire (pre-test) that can help you establish and be aware of your baseline knowledge before starting this course. 

Towards the end, students will be asked to answer a similar set of questions again (post-test), and the expected outcome is a higher score in the post-test versus the pre-test given the added knowledge obtained from this course.
